HOW… DID YOU MEET?
We met online! David was my first and only date and, within a few short months, we were engaged. It was very much a whirlwind romance with a happy ending.
WHY… DID YOU CHOOSE WATERKLOOF?
We’d seen lots of venues in the Cape, but nothing stood out for me. We wanted a winelands wedding, but not necessarily the cliché of the Cape Dutch homestead… I come from Somerset West and, when I found Waterkloof and saw the views of the mountains I grew up with – coupled with stunning views of False Bay – we were sold! The venue was very “us” – fantastic location, outstanding food and delicious wine. About half our guests came from abroad, so it was important to me that I could show my beautiful country in all its magnificence! I hadn’t even been to the venue (we live in London)… I booked it from the website alone!
WHICH… DISH AND WINE WERE YOUR FAVOURITES?
Chef Gregory is a genius with food – the calamari and springbok loin canapés were a huge hit with our guests, but for us, the beef fillet was our firm favourite! Both our wines, the Circumstance Sauvignon Blanc and Peacock Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, were perfect with our menu choices.
WHAT… IS YOUR BEST MEMORY OF THE DAY?
It is impossible to choose, but I’ll give it a go! Coming down the aisle and seeing David’s face was so moving – he is (in his words) “not an emotional human being”, so seeing that amount of joy on his face was wonderful. A close second would be after we signed the register and had a few moments alone on the balcony with a bottle of bubbly and the views, the sun shining… and, of course, a little kiss with my new husband!
DESCRIBE… YOUR WEDDING IN ONE WORD?
WHAT… ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR FUTURE BRIDES?
Outsource! Use everyone and anyone that offers to help. It’s really difficult to get around to all your guests on the night, so I would really suggest turning your wedding into a two or three day event – so that on the day, you don’t have to rush around making sure you’ve seen everyone and you can enjoy celebrating. We had drinks the night before with almost all of our wedding guests, which meant there was less pressure on the day.
