Having been selected by JANCISROBINSON.COM as one of the stand-out producers of both red and white wine in South Africa after their visit to The Western Cape for Cape Wine 2018, we were delighted to receive more great reviews for our wines from this much-respected and followed online publication, following the recent exhilarating NEW WAVE SA 2019 tasting in London.
Amidst South Africa’s finest (and most expensive) wines, a few highlights we noted on this occasion were as follows:
– The most GVs (good value) and VGVs (very good value) of any producer tasted.
– Further confirmation that our red wines have now become a match for our white wines.
– This glowing review for our soon to be released Circumstance Mourvèdre 2017:
Waterkloof, Circumstance Mourvèdre 2017 Stellenbosch
“Aged in old 600-litre barrels.
Deep crimson. Not what I expected on the nose – peppery and fragrant, almost floral. Then shows the reductive character of the variety on the palate, but in a good way – smoky, dark and savoury. Even a hint of char. Blind I might have thought this was Syrah. Compact, fine and dry in texture. Lovely but embryonic. VGV” (signifies very good value) (Julia Harding)
Yes, we’re now making some pretty fine red wine from this wonderful grape, alongside our universally acclaimed Cape Coral Mourvèdre Rosé. We believe in Mourvèdre on Waterkloof, all worked by hand and horses, with whole-bunches for the red pressed with feet and for the rosé in a delicate champagne press.
