Waterkloof Restaurant first in the Helderberg to get StreetSmart
Presenting culinary brilliance with a conscience, Waterkloof Restaurant, the sky scraping Winelands hotspot outside Somerset West with its priceless view over False Bay, is the first restaurant in the Helderberg to sign up with StreetSmart SA in an effort to help street children to live a viable life in their communities.

StreetSmart SA, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the social integration and upliftment of street children through funds which are raised by participating restaurants, was launched in Cape Town in 2005 under the patronage of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. It has since expanded its footprint to include leading restaurants in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch with the Helderberg region becoming the latest participant.
StreetSmart restaurants raise funds by adding a R5 donation to each table's bill. The donation is voluntary and diners have the option to donate more if they wish to. These funds are then ploughed back into their immediate communities to assist with learning, skills training and family reunification programmes.
Waterkloof restaurant, which opened its doors in 2009 to welcome fine dining experiences in a gorgeously appointed, 10 meter high glass promontory flowing from a slick wine tasting lounge and state-of-the-art gravitational cellar, sets a pioneering example as the first eatery in the area to extend a helping hand to this worthy cause.
While StreetSmart SA is still in the process of evaluating potential beneficiary organisations in the Helderberg vicinity, all the funds raised in the area will go towards uplifting the lives of local street children who are in desperate need of help, shelter and education.
Since its inception five years ago, StreetSmart SA has raised just over R3 million through its programme, which currently stands 74 restaurants strong.

Waterkloof restaurant serves lunch and dinner from Mondays to Saturdays and lunch only on Sundays. What makes this restaurant, with its over scaled, pictorial views of Waterkloof's amphitheatre of vineyards and fynbos beauty, so unique is that at all times one feels part of the farm and nature in progress, no matter if you are outside on the balcony or inside, enjoying good food and wine.
