Richard Hemming MW covers South Africa for www.jancisrobinson.com and we were recently overwhelmed with our best ever set of reviews from this much-followed and respected wine publication. Furthermore, Waterkloof was picked-out for a special mention in both the article focusing on red wines and also the piece on white wines.
ON REDS WINES:
“Several producers deserve to be name-checked for their consistency of quality and value: Iona (whose single barrel of 2018 Nebbiolo is pictured – named ‘Disaster’ because most of the vineyard was destroyed by fire shortly before its first harvest), Mont Blois, Lismore, Richard Kershaw, Storm and Waterkloof. They are fail-safe names.” – Richard hemming MW for JancisRobinson.com
ON WHITE WINES:
“It is harder to identify particular regions that are worthy of special attention, but there were
several producers whose consistent excellence and competitive prices make them worth
knowing about, so seek out the wines of Iona, Richard Kershaw, Lismore, Mont Blois and
Waterkloof (whose biodynamic vineyard is pictured above).” – Richard Hemming MW for JancisRobinson.com
A SNEEK PREVIEW OF OUR FAVOURITE TASTING NOTE FROM THE ARTICLE WHICH WAS FOR CIRCUMSTANCE CAPE CORAL MOURVÈDRE ROSÉ:
“Rooibos! Distinct terroir character here – whether it’s fynbos or tea or whatever, it certainly
seems to reflect its home. Excellent softness and complexity. As valid a fine wine as many reds
or whites – really shows what great rosé can do. Finishes with a long, mealy length.” 17/20 (RH)
