93/100 – Natalie MacLean, NatalieMacLean.com
“A terrific, richly layered South African Syrah with aromas of fleshy black plum and dark spice. Love the complexity, structure and pure hedonism of this wine. Pair with grilled lamb.”
91/100 – Evan Saviolidis, EvanWineSavvy.com
“Most definitely a cool climate interpretation of Syrah. Grown at higher elevations and on granite soils (which Syrah loves), it is elegant, with black pepper, violets, plum, oregano, cured meats and hints of hickory. Tannins are flush and provide 5 years of cellaring if so desired. Rack of lamb marinated in rosemary and garlic is the way to go.”
4 Stars – Vic Harradine, WineCurrent.com
“This was aged 20 months in new (15%) and older 600 litre French barrel before bottling unfined. Grilled herbs, heavily charred smoky notes and peppery spice aromas set the table for flavours of tangy, red cherry/berry fruit garnished with excellent tang and heavily charred toast flavour on the palate. It’s mid-plus weight with decent texture and finishes dry and lengthy with replays. Pour with grilled burgers, gourmet sausage or steak.”

93/100 – Tim Atkin decanter.com
“Nadia Barnard makes delicious Rhône-style reds from this cool, biodyamic site overlooking False Bay. This comes mostly from a single block and was made with 100% whole bunches. Iodine, violets and wild herbs, sinewy tannins, subtle oak and a bright, oyster shell note on the finish.”

90/100 – Wine Advocate
“Circumstance Syrah is pressed by foot (a machine has been found to be too brutal with whole-bunch fruit). The nose is perfumed and generous with brambly red fruit, incense, fresh fig and a touch of leather – all nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a very appealing savory entry. The tannins are quite fine, the texture a little powdery with quite a complex, fresh, dried blood/ferrous finish that is very appealing. You could drink this now as it is quite approachable, but it should offer pleasure over the next 4-6 years.”
