The new Registered Single Vineyard Pinotage from False Bay Vineyards – THE LAST OF THE FIRST 2020- was recently crowned Pinotage of The Year by Platter’s South African Wine Guide 2022.
Not to be outdone, we have just received joyous New Year’s tidings regarding its little sibling – the FALSE BAY BUSHVINE PINOTAGE 2020 – which, despite being one of the most affordable wines entered, secured a Top 20 place and an eye-popping score of 93/100 in a glowing Decanter tasting of 142 Pinotage wines. The first such tasting by Decanter in 22 years!
Here’s what the Decanter panel had to say about the wine: “Appealing blackberry, violet, sour cherry and savoury herbs. Lovely definition. Firm yet elegant tannins. Drink 2022-2030. 93/100”
Watch winemaker and chief-vineyard-explorer Nadia Langenegger chatting about this accolade:
We can only make the False Bay range as naturally as we do (wild yeast etc.) if we can find really good, healthy grapes. Our winemaker Nadia Langenegger puts tremendous efforts into discovering naturally balanced vineyard sites and building strong relationships with growers, so we’re doubly delighted when the pocket-friendly False Bay range gains accolades such as the above and the recent Gold and Best in Show for False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc 2020.
If you would like to try the two wines we make from South Africa’s very own grape variety, then simply ping an email to info@waterkloofwines.co.za or DM our @WaterkloofWines social media pages with your name and approximate location, so we can point you in the direction of the good stuff.
