At Waterkloof we think the world of Chenin Blanc. 368 years after this wonder of a grape was first planted in The Western Cape, South Africa is really now making Chenin its own. Waterkloof Custodian Paul Boutinot has descendants from and used to make wine in The Loire, so in making such a bullish statement, we’d like to think we are little less biased than some.
But don’t take our word for it. As respected wine publication Decanter puts it in their March 223 issue:
“in terms of bang for your buck, you simply cannot find more characterful white wine in the world than South African Chenin Blanc”
We were thrilled to pick-up a stonking 93/100 for Circumstance Chenin Blanc 2021 in this Decanter Panel Tasting as judged by Beverley Blanning MW, Roger Jones and Greg Sherwood MW.
The production of this organic, wild fermented Chenin was just 7100 bottles and can be found exclusively through independent drinks specialists and restaurants in South Africa, The Netherlands, Belgium, USA and UK.
