Nadine Harris, the radiant bride from one of our most recent weddings lets us in on her special day with her Prince Charming at Waterkloof.
What… is your story?
I am originally from the small town of George and Strafford is from Johannesburg, but we are both officially Capetonians and have lived in the Mother City for years. I am an Interior Designer and Strafford is a Financial Accountant.
How… did you meet?
It’s an amazing story, and we have both our sisters to thank! I first got to know Strafford’s mom through my sister, as she worked with her. I used to visit my sister after class, and got to know Glennis (my now mum-in-law). Our sisters soon became friends and, co-incidentally, worked in the UK together. When they came back to South Africa, we were introduced. I was invited for dinner at the Harris’, and that’s when the romance blossomed! I always say it was love at first sight.
Why… did you choose Waterkloof?
We are both people who know what we want. If we see something we like, we go for it. Lying in bed one night, we stumbled across a wine guide that featured Waterkloof on the first page. The very next day, we took a drive out to look at it and the building took our breath away. One can’t explain what an impression Waterkloof has as one drives up the hill and sees it for the first time. You have to see it to believe it! Neither of us is one for frills, doilies or streamers, so knowing that all we had to do for the decor was to enjoy the beauty of the interior and magnificent views made it an easy choice. Right there and then, we decided on Waterkloof. We hadn’t seen any other venue or paged through any wedding magazines – all we needed and envisaged was right there!
What… was your favourite dish and Waterkloof wine?
Mine was definitely the Camembert creme brûlée starter. Wow…heaven in your mouth! Strafford’s was the beef fillet. Our favourite wines were the Circumstance Merlot and Chenin Blanc.
Tell us… your favourite memory of the day
Saying “I do” against the most incredible view! And not to forget the rainbow that magically appeared in the backdrop whilst we did so.
