Waterkloof Restaurant adds a fresh seasonal spin to bill of fare
New taste sensations and leisure outdoor activities beckon at this Winelands marvel
Waterkloof Restaurant, magnificently appointed on the outskirts of Somerset West with priceless views over False Bay, refreshes the senses with new seasonal sensations and leisure outdoor activities to match the spirit of summer.
On his new lighter bill of fare, Burgundian chef Grégory Czarnecki unleashes a fusion of fresh in-season tastes from his own vegetable and herb garden at this skyscraping Winelands hotspot. Expect to see the likes of tarragon, chervil, fennel, rhubarb and mango to whet jaded palates in delicious flavour and texture combinations that matches the estate’s elegant wines sublimely.
The entire Waterkloof estate is treated as a holistic entity and the golden thread of sustainability runs right through every aspect, from the bio-dynamic vineyards on the slopes of the Schapenberg to the restaurant kitchen. Not only do they rely on genuine horse-power as opposed to heavy machinery and tractors; Dorper sheep or as they call them, ‘nature’s weed-eaters; the manure of their own Dextor cows for fertilizing the vineyards; and chickens who keep the vineyards in tip top shape. They even use their own produce in the restaurant.
“On our menu you will find our own lamb, herbs and eggs and diners can expect the freshest ingredients. Unlocking nature’s true potential holds no secrets at our estate and our philosophy of transparency also comes to life in our kitchen. This morning’s eggs easily end up in the soufflé for lunch,” shares Chef de Cuisine Czarnecki.
Adding more reason for laidback winelands summer sojourns in the company of Waterkloof, the estate now offers three outdoors activities for self-indulgent moments, away from the hustle and bustle.
This threesome includes a ‘Tour with Us’ experience which offers a guided tour of the estate’s natural fynbos, as well as a vineyard walk, cellar tour with tutored wine tasting and lunch or dinner at R400 per person.
The ‘Walk with Us’ activity includes a two hour guided walk through the estate and its pristine mountain fynbos, culminating in a seasonal three course lunch or dinner at R360 per person.
Waterkloof’s ‘Ride with Us’ experience invites enthusiasts to saddle up for a 60 minute horse ride through its vineyards, followed by a seasonal 3-course lunch or dinner at R530 per head.
All these experiences are set against the backdrop of sweeping views of vineyards and fynbos splendour, the Hottentots Holland and Helderberg mountains and the full expanse of False Bay all the way to Cape Point in the distance.
Planning to tie the knot? Waterkloof offers the ultimate setting for a spectacular Winelands wedding. The estate offers tailor-made wedding reception packages that combine personal service, superb estate wines, delicious cuisine and breath-taking views, to ensure that every bride and groom will treasure their celebration with family and friends forever.
