Reach for a Dream ‘Masterchef’ cooks up a storm at Waterkloof
Waterkloof Restaurant, the skyscraping Winelands hotspot on the crest of the Schapenberg outside Somerset West, and the Reach For A Dream Foundation, turned a lifelong dream into a tasty reality when they fulfilled an ailing child’s wish of cooking in a professional kitchen for one day.
‘Masterchef’ Dylan* was given the opportunity to don his apron and spend some time with Waterkloof Chef de Cuisine Grégory Czarnecki to learn some of the finer techniques when it comes to creating classical cuisine with an innovative twist.
Under the chef’s guidance, Dylan quickly mastered the art of slicing and dicing and shared his culinary flair with onlookers from the restaurant’s open-plan kitchen. At the end of this gastronomic experience, he managed to put forward a spectacular three course lunch comprising of rainbow trout gravlax with watercress and anchovy mayonnaise; beef fillet with bone marrow beignets, and turnip and truffle custard and white chocolate and poppy seed cheesecake, thereby realising his all-time castle in the sky.
“It was great to see Dylan coming out of his shell as the day progressed. He did a great job for a first timer and I thoroughly enjoyed having him and sharing the same passion,” adds Chef Gregory.
