Professor Perold’s creation, Pinotage, was propagated at Elsenburg College in 1935. In 1941, Myrtle Grove on the Schapenberg was chosen for the first commercial plantings. Today, only one block remains on the Schapenberg – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭. Completely different in style to inland Pinotage. Elegant, perfumed, graceful – as it was originally intended?
@wineonaplatter’s tasting panel certainly think so. The 2020 vintage has just been announced as their Pinotage of the Year, following their maximum five star rating revealed earlier this week!
This registered single vineyard is organically farmed, handpicked, naturally crafted, wild fermented and 100% vegan. Available at selected retailers, The Waterkloof Tasting Lounge and our Online Shop.
THE LAST OF THE FIRST PINOTAGE 2020:
96 Points – 5 Stars Platters Guide 2022
From 27 year old single-vineyard & only Pinotage on Schapenberg, exposed to cooling effects of False Bay. Striking perfume, morello cherries, hints of undergrowth; palate too reflects Pinot Noir parentage, silky texture wrapped in gentlest pf tannins. A Pinotage of refinement, freshness & 12.5% alcohol, 2020 is totally beguiling.
