Our planting of Syrah on Waterkloof in 2005 continues to be vindicated by the international press with a terrific tasting note and 90 point score from The Wine Advocate for our Circumstance Syrah 2012:
“Circumstance Syrah is pressed by foot (a machine has been found to be too brutal with whole-bunch fruit). The nose is perfumed and generous with brambly red fruit, incense, fresh fig and a touch of leather – all nicely defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a very appealing savory entry. The tannins are quite fine, the texture a little powdery with quite a complex, fresh, dried blood/ferrous finish that is very appealing. You could drink this now as it is quite approachable, but it should offer pleasure over the next 4-6 years.” 90 POINTS
This same wine also received a 93 point score in Decanter Magazine earlier this year:
“Nadia Barnard makes delicious Rhône-style reds from this cool, biodyamic site overlooking False Bay. This comes mostly from a single block and was made with 100% whole bunches. Iodine, violets and wild herbs, sinewy tannins, subtle oak and a bright, oyster shell note on the finish.” 93 POINTS
The total production was 8,176 bottles and the wine has recently been released internationally.
